Nicotine Free Generation (NFG) aims to very gradually raise the minimum age for nicotine sales. Boards of Health select a cutoff date, like January 1, 2005, and permit sales only to those who were already age 21 or over on that date. Current nicotine users are NOT affected.
Seventeen Massachusetts cities and towns, with over half a million residents, have already enacted NFG to protect their youth.

Did you know?
The American Medical Association endorsed Nicotine Free Generation in June:
“RESOLVED, that our American Medical Association advocate for legislation establishing a Nicotine Free Generation through the prohibition on sale of addictive nicotine products to anyone born after a chosen date”
“and be it further Resolved, that our AMA alert its members to current opportunities to create Nicotine Free Generation policies … within the towns, cities, and states where they practice and live.”
The 84 plans NFG 2025 Stipend Project.
The 84, “MA Youth Fighting the Tobacco and Vaping Industries”
made Nicotine Free Generation its “Stipend Project for Fall 2025”.
MTCP includes NFG in its BoH Work Plan.
MTCP, the Massachusetts Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program
now includes Nicotine Free Generation in its Board of Health Work Plan, stating it clearly as a goal for its Commonwealth-funded programs.
